Reliable protection against cancer: organ-preserving treatment of severe pathologies

At St. Luke’s Clinic, we perform this manipulation using advanced radiofrequency devices. This allows removing the affected area with jewelry-like precision, without using a scalpel, avoiding coarse scars, and fully preserving women’s health.

What is conization and what is its dual effect?

Conization is a procedure during which a gynecological surgeon removes altered cervical tissues in the form of a small cone (the base of which is on the outer part of the cervix, and the apex goes deep into the canal). The uniqueness of this procedure lies in the fact that it is simultaneously therapeutic and diagnostic:

  • Treatment: the pathological focus (dysplasia) is completely removed within healthy tissues. The problem is surgically eliminated in one go.
  • Diagnosis: unlike lasers or electric currents that “burn” tissue, radio waves cut the cone perfectly intact. This piece is обязательно sent to the laboratory for detailed histological examination. The doctor must be 100% sure that there are no malignant cells at the edges of the removed tissue and that the disease has been defeated.

Indications for radiofrequency conization

The procedure is prescribed by a doctor after an extended colposcopy and confirmation of the diagnosis by biopsy. Main indications:

  • Moderate to severe cervical dysplasia (CIN II, CIN III).
  • Presence of pathological changes in the mucosa that extend deep into the cervical canal.
  • Deformation, hypertrophy, or presence of coarse scars on the cervix after difficult childbirth or trauma.
  • Recurrences (reappearance) of dysplasia after previous treatment (laser or cryodestruction).
  • Suspicion of microinvasive cancer (for accurate diagnosis).

Advantages of the radiofrequency method at St. Luke’s Clinic

We have abandoned traumatic methods (scalpel) in favor of high-frequency radio waves, as this method is the “gold standard” and has a number of undeniable advantages:

  1. Bloodless: the radio wave simultaneously cuts the tissue and instantly coagulates (“seals”) blood vessels, so the operation proceeds practically without blood loss.
  2. Minimal scarring (fertility preservation): the radiofrequency method ensures rapid healing of the epithelium. No coarse scar forms on the cervix, it retains its elasticity, which allows the woman to carry and give birth naturally in the future.
  3. Painless: the procedure takes place under quality local anesthesia or light intravenous medical sleep (you will feel nothing).

How does rehabilitation proceed?

Conization is a “one-day” surgery that lasts only 15–30 minutes. After just 1-2 hours of rest in a comfortable ward of our hospital, you will be able to go home.

The process of complete tissue healing takes about 4-6 weeks. In the first 2-3 weeks, watery, and sometimes bloody (spotting) discharge is absolutely normal.

For successful recovery, it is very important to strictly exclude for 4-6 weeks:

  • Sexual activity.
  • Lifting weights (over 3 kg), active sports (fitness, running, abs).
  • Use of gynecological tampons (only pads are allowed).
  • Thermal procedures (hot bath, sauna, solarium) and swimming in open water bodies or pools (only warm shower is allowed).

The diagnosis of “dysplasia” requires decisive action, but it is successfully treated. Entrust your health to the experienced gynecological surgeons of St. Luke’s Clinic to get rid of fear and illness forever.
